I never wrote a love song, I only said goodbye
‘Cause when I said I love you, my heart knew that I lied
When I sang a love song, what everybody heard
Was me sayin’ I love you with someone else’s words

I always thought I’d only stay here for a while
If things weren’t going perfect I’d tip my hat and smile
And write another chapter in my book of verse
But now I’m staying here with you, for better or for worse

I wrote a lot of letters and I made a lot of calls
Sent a lot of flowers but still I can’t recall
I single time I ever really let someone inside
